Maybe it is because people are more creative when they have less things to do. When you go to London or New York, there’s so much happening that you can get distracted. And people feel closer because they all know each other. They come together. They share things. And all the You Are A Very Naughty Buy Now Go To My Room Shirt But I will love this bands know each other. There was so much happening in Manchester in the ’80s—maybe because it was the years of Margaret Thatcher, which were bleak. And when times are bleak and difficult, people get more creative. They want to have some kind of release and fun. Well, I do think it’s interesting that glam rock, Bowie, and dance music have all been huge in the north of England, nowhere more so than in Manchester. When I was growing up, David Bowie was a hero to me. It’s because of him I wanted to learn English because I wanted to understand what he was singing about. And then also I liked the fact he had a character that was very different for each album. And whenever he came out with something, the look and the music were so in sync, you couldn’t take them apart from each other. Also Marc Bolan from T-Rex—he was an icon of style that we don’t talk about anymore. Same thing when you saw Marc Bolan in his satin suits, singing “Metal Guru.” It was just like, Wow, crazy. In France we didn’t have that. I went to London in the ’70s and saw Biba and went down the King’s Road, and all these fashion stores played music. Those days in Paris [laughs] the stores were all silent. England was so different.

The British Royal Family is getting in the You Are A Very Naughty Buy Now Go To My Room Shirt But I will love this Christmas spirit with some good old fashioned caroling at Westminster Abbey. But nobody was more ready to celebrate the giving season than Kate Middleton. This year marked the Princess of Wales’s third annual “Together at Christmas” celebration, which she hosts in honor of those supporting children during their early development, and will be broadcasted on Christmas Eve. In a promo for the special released today, Middleton wore a white sequin boucle jacket with a pearl trim from Self Portrait. She kept up her all-white theme for the event itself, which was filmed tonight in London. The Princess wore a calf-grazing white coat over a white crew neck sweater. She kept her look monochromatic—a recurring theme in her wardrobe as of late—with a pair of high-waisted white trousers fastened with a gold, double button closure. She kept accessories to a minimum, carrying a petite Mosaic bag from Scottish brand Strathberry, which retails for $605. As for her jewelry, she opted for a pair of dangly Van Cleef & Arpels earrings, with two white Alhambras on each ear. Kate Middleton was joined by the rest of her family, who also dressed for the occasion. Prince William and Prince George both looked dignified in coordinating navy suits, ties, and black Oxfords, while Prince Louis opted for a pair of adorable booties with his suit. Princess Charlotte dressed on-theme in a burgundy coat-dress that matched William’s tie (as well as a ribbon in her hair), black tights, and patent leather Mary-Janes. Wonder what their favorite song of the night was.I’m seeing red. Cherry stockings, crimson crew socks, and sanguine thigh-highs, that type of red. If you asked me at any given hour when I last thought about red socks and tights—layered underneath the You Are A Very Naughty Buy Now Go To My Room Shirt But I will love this classic merlot Carel Mary Janes, paired with a red Puma Speedcat, visible under a sheer Gucci skirt, and worn with patent Paraboot loafers—my answer would likely be moments ago. The sea of red has flooded Instagram, found its way into TikTok, and even trickled into my neighborhood coffee shop. (Just this morning, two sets of fire-engine-red tights stood in line for lattes.) Wearing scarlet socks is by no means a new fashion statement, but the strangely specific trend has set the feet of fashion folk ablaze, begging the burning question: Why?

Red socks had long been in the You Are A Very Naughty Buy Now Go To My Room Shirt But I will love this zeitgeist (it’s just a colored sock, after all), but they’re becoming more and more ubiquitous. The first outfit to put me on red alert (pardon the pun) was that of Washington Post fashion writer Rachel Tashjian. Several years ago, she posted a photo wearing what seems to be a Yohji Yamamoto cape, black loafers, and a pair of folded red socks over black tights. This put me on the constant lookout for red lower halves. In my saved folder are other particularly inspiring instances: Harling Ross wearing red socks with Marimekko pants in 2021; a red-socks-and-Birkenstocks combination from Comme Si; a still of Blair Waldorf wearing red tights in Gossip Girl season one; and a photo of Jane Birkin in red knee-highs from 1971. Then there are the menswear references: Ralph Lauren is known to throw a red sock into a campaign photo; Richard Biedul knew what he was doing wearing a striped rugby, charcoal coat, red socks, and loafers; and Elder Statesman x Zegna styled red-striped socks into its look-book photos.
